SOLO Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses are the recognized industry standard for backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, river guides, ski patrollers and students in outdoor recreation programs. The WFR is an eight- to nine-day comprehensive course that covers the standards of backcountry medicine. Students will gain knowledge, skills and confidence in areas including musculoskeletal injuries, soft tissue injuries, environmental emergencies, survival skills and other medical emergencies. SOLO Southeast’s WFR courses place an emphasis on leadership, prevention and decision-making, giving you the tools to make critical decisions in remote wilderness locations. Skills are gained in traditional classroom sessions as well as through participation in practical skills scenarios.
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a 16-hour, 2-day entry-level course is the ideal certification for outdoor enthusiasts looking for basic first aid training and backcountry medical skills. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) covers topics ranging from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment. Students will have an opportunity to learn practical skills through hands-on scenarios as well as in a traditional classroom setting.
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a 2-year certification. Taking a WFA course can also rectify a soon-to-expire Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification.
